Mile High Hymns project hits goal
NASHVILLE - The numbers are in and thanks to the support of DMHO fans the new record - Mile High Hymns - will be a reality.
The band's Kickstarter campaign to raise the money for the new project surpassed its goal of $24,250 more than two days ahead of the deadline. Any money raised over the goal will be placed towards marketing the new project.
"Everything we do we do for our fans," said Denver Bierman. "Everything they do for us is the reason why. Their prayers and support have been a huge part of our ministry and this is just another way that we feel blessed."
The project started with the bands desire to give their fans what they had requested for years - an album of their unique arrangements of the classic hymns of the faith. In the fall of this year, the band asked fans on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=125340504292990&id=173338516082914#!/pages/Denver-and-the-Mile-High-Orchestra/173338516082914) to help name the album. Now fans have made it all possible with their monetary and prayer support.
"You've given us a very Merry Christmas," said Denver. "Any thanks that we can give you all at this point seems so small. Please continue to pray for us and this project. The way God has blessed this project so far, I am excited for the plans He may have for it. Please pray that we will produce an offering worthy of that favor and that He will use it to the glory of Jesus."
The band hopes to be in the studio soon after the beginning of the year, with a projected release date in the summer of 2013.
Opening weekend a hit
NASHVILLE - Opening weekend of this year's DMHO Christmas Tour was a smash hit with packed audiences from Jamestown, New York, to Texas...literally.
The band opened their always popular Christmas Show with a sold out house at the Reg Lenna Civic Center in Jamestown and it was a night to remember. From there it was on to North Carolina and the First Christian Church in Kernersville and to Arden and the Biltmore Baptist Church for two days of sold out performances. The whirlwind opening week ended with a capacity crowd in Odessa, Texas.
Just some of the comments from concert goers;

"Groovy" brings home Dove Award
NASHVILLE — Christian music has handed out it’s version of the Grammy’s - known as the Dove Awards - and a familiar face to Plymouth walked away from the event with his first honor.
Denver Bierman and the Mile High Orchestra took their first Dove Award in the category of ‘Best Children’s Album of the Year’ won by the bands latest offering entitled “Groovy”. The project is a collection of kids songs written and performed in the bands distinct style that is as popular with parents as it is their children.
“We worked with ‘Go Fish’ on this album and they’re really the rock stars of kids music these days,” said Denver from his home in Nashville. “It was a lot of fun and I think it really helped us.”
The songs are personal for Denver and come from experience.
“Having kids changes you and I think being a Dad made me realize I wanted to have a musical opportunity of encouraging the next generation,” said Denver. “I remember the artists and songs I used to sing when I was five or six years old and I still sing them. I wanted to do some kids songs that were inspired by our band, that the lyrics were definitely for kids but had some musical maturity that their parents could enjoy too.”
It also gave the band a chance to put their stamp on a song by a music icon - putting their unique take on an old Bob Dylan song ‘Man Gave Names to all the Animals’.
“That was a really cool thing to be able to take a song from a legend like Bob Dylan and put our stamp on it,” said Denver. “I think we had a really jazzy, cool feel to it. I was really happy with it I think it came our really well.”
The Dove Award is the first industry award for DMHO that has garnered critical praise and a devoted fan base over the years.
“First of all I’m just delighted that they would consider us,” said Denver. “We’ve been at this a long time and it really is a chance to be confirmed in what we’re doing. We’ve never really been a mainstream, pop radio band we’ve just tried to be a band that everybody could enjoy - a band for the American family. What could be better than being a band for the American family?”
Follow the links to listen to “Groovy”.

Many of you have been asking about this amazing new project, which is geared for families and children. The album is called, "Groovy" and it certainly lives up to it's name! With tons of brand new songs as well as some DMHO classics, the reviews are saying this is the best DMHO album yet.
Here's some more info. about DMHO and their brand new album Called, "Groovy"
Denver & The Mile High Orchestra-- GROOVY
Some artists strive their entire careers to fill a niche—one that seems to change with trends, musical tastes and maybe even the blowing wind. Others—like Denver & The Mile High Orchestra—simply carve their own, then fill it up to overflowing.
Having come together just over a decade ago at Nashville’s Belmont University, the popular band has traveled the world, performing for thousands at churches, festivals, even at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. On top of that, they’re Christian music’s premier Big Band, creating a wall of sound with trumpet, saxophone, trombone and rhythm that has audiences dancing in the aisles. With four acclaimed recordings under their belt—Good To Go, Timeless Christmas,Stand, and the band’s 2000 debut, Act The Scat—Denver & The Mile High Orchestra is turning their creative focus to their first Children’s project, Groovy. Blending the ensemble’s trademark upbeat arrangements with fun songs that will have kids singing along about their Creator, it’s likely to have some new fans playing air trumpet, too.
So what’s one of the top contenders from FOX’s “The Next Great American Band” doing making a kids record? Shouldn’t they be buying hip new clothes and trying to fit some pop music mold to capitalize on their success? Not so fast—because for Denver and his bandmates, Groovy IS the dream. Being a Godly parent, raising great kids that love Jesus—and have an appreciation for all different styles of music, to boot—that’s the dream God gave this band.
“We walked away from that show with a deep sense that our band was supposed to do music for the American family—positive, uplifting messages for families,” says Denver Bierman, lead vocalist and founder of the group. “And honestly, my wife had a lot of foresight, too. She’s been saying for a long time that the kind of vibe and energy we have would really translate for kids and families. Then we met up with Go Fish’s Jamie Statema and God put a lot of things into place.”
When the opportunity to partner with Go Fish came along, as the first outside signing for the veteran children’s entertainers’ venture, gfk Records, the decision for Denver was easy. And in turn, the pairing became “a really cool marriage,” he says, noting that each group benefitted from the other. “They’re vocally driven; we’re instrumentally driven.” Plus they had more fun than grown men should be allowed to have, choosing songs from their own childhoods and writing new cuts for their new—if slightly shorter—audience.
One immediate sing-a-long for the under five-foot crowd (and their parents) is the classic “I Am A Promise.” Penned by Christian music pioneer Bill Gaither, the song holds a special place in Denver’s heart. “Growing up in ‘Bill Gaither country’ in Indiana,
there are a few songs I remember every single word of from children’s church, and ‘I Am A Promise’ is one of those,” he recalls. “The melody of this song really lends itself to a Big Band treatment.”
Another legendary songwriter leaves his mark on Groovy, as the band creates their rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Man Gave Names To All The Animals,” originally from his landmark 1979 release, Slow Train Comin.’ Partnering with their Go Fish friends to showcase the vocal partnership, and utilizing no instruments but percussion, the song is sure to leave kids mooing, oinking and baa-ing—which, from this audience, is high praise indeed.
“We went into recording this album and said, ‘Let’s make this fun. Let’s not worry about whether something is the right sound for radio—we’ll just use instinct and energy, and have a blast,’” says Denver. “And I think that stuff translates—it’s an intangible thing, when you’re having fun.”
The fun they had making Groovy is contagious for the listener. Great arrangements of fun songs will please both parents and adults, from “Groovy ABCs” to “Sunday School Swing,” a medley of classics that includes “The B-I-B-L-E,” “Joshua Fought The Battle Of Jericho” and “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands.” And, of course, Denver & The Mile High Orchestra stay true to their focus of bringing a Christian message to these little fans with big ears. “’With All My Heart’ is a worship song we think a child will really love,” Denver says. “In fact my own son recently started belting it out, singing, I love you God with all of my heart. It was amazing.
It’s also important to this group of seasoned musicians to leave a legacy of both faithand music, bringing classic sounds to kids who might never have heard of bluegrass artist Ricky Skaggs, blues singer Jonny Lang, or ‘40s bandleader Glenn Miller—a few of the favorites in Denver’s household with his own kids. The band leads seminars for young people around the country through DMHO-U, clinics they present featuring master classes and private lessons for aspiring musicians.
“We want to expose them to, and really encourage them in, the fine arts, where they can explore and find their creative talent. Give them a chance to hear music they don’t hear every day—bring horn music to kids of this generation,” says Denver. “And hopefully they’ll hear music that is very melodic, and with a quality message.”
That message and music will be showcased for families as Denver & The Mile High Orchestra tours the new songs from Groovy, blending them into the shows they’ve already been doing and adding some special concerts just for kids and families—not to mention the possibility of a few appearances with their new partners, Go Fish.
“My goal is really to put a smile on a bunch of kids’ faces, and make music that will bring families together,” says Denver. “We have a lot of fun on stage, but it’s an honor that we don’t take lightly.”

Well, here’s a BIG HELLO to the digital blogging world from Denver Bierman!! Yes, that’s right, I can’t believe it either, but I have decided to start blogging... if any of you know me at all, I could probably become friends with a tree, and I’ve never been at a loss for words. And now that I’m 33 years old, I’m just now starting to understand a little better who I am, who I’ve been, and who I wanna be.

DMHO member on Hannah Montana Movie!
If you are an adult and feel funny going to a "Hannah Montana Movie", take a kid with you. Scotty Steward (Lead Trumpet/Background Vocalist for DMHO) can be seen as a background actor in a "music festival town fundraiser scene" doing a dance called the "Hoedown Throwdown". Be prepared to laugh your heads off at how ridiculous he looks. Clearly, he was hired and placed in the dance scene for shear "awkwardness" and NOT his dancing ability. But a paycheck is a paycheck regardless of the humiliation, right?
New songs release on EP this month!
The anxiously anticipated arrival of several new songs by DenverMHO will come this month. The DenverMHO EP will contain the following songs:
- You Move Me
- Out Of The Dark
- Holding On To You
- I Love You
